For a list of events from 2005, click here Back to current "Diary of Events" 2007 Diary April 22nd (Sunday) 12.30 am Special Meeting to discuss committee vacancies Ron Hines Trophy (Social Mixed Doubles Tournament) date tba April June 24th (Sunday) 11 am Annual General Meeting All members welcome to come along and hear the review of the previous financial year and information about the future. If you would like to join the committee, this is also an opportunity to be elected on. June 25th – July 8th Wimbledon Championships We will be holding a draw for tickets early Spring. The club normally receives something like a dozen pairs from the LTA which we sell to members at face value with allocation from a random draw out of the hat. Keep a look out for a notice on the board to enter the draw. July 1st (Sunday) Summer Lunch Our traditional mid-summer lunch organised by Poo Jenkins. (Sunday) Andrewartha Mixed Doubles Tournament date tba July/August August 15th – 19th Burnham Open Senior Tournament Please note that because the Junior event has now been upgraded to an LTA Tier 3 event, we have had to swap the events around this year so that the senior event is on first. Closing date for entries 1st August. August 20th– 25th Burnham Open Junior Tournament This tournament has been upgraded to an LTA Tier 3 event and will now attract more players of even higher standards making for an excellent competition. The event has been swapped with the Seniors so as to be able to fit into the national Tier 3 schedule of events. September 2nd (Saturday) Blanchworth Charity Tournament, near Dursley, Gloucestershire For the last 3 years, around 8 Avenue members have taken part in this charity mixed doubles event. In 2005, our own Vinny Duddy and Emily Rossiter were champions from a field of over 150 entrants. If you would like to take part, you need to book early – contact Darren Lloyd. October 13th (Saturday) Captain’s Dinner October date tba. The main social event of the year. Booted and suited/posh frocks to celebrate the achievements of the league season just passed and a general excuse to have a party. 3 course meal, raffle and disco. December 2nd (Sunday) Xmas Lunch Our annual Xmas lunch organised by Poo Jenkins for the first Sunday in December December 23rd (Sunday) Xmas Mince Pies On the last Sunday before Xmas, it is an Avenue tradition to go the bar for a tipple or three and a stack of mince pies after the morning social tennis session. December 31st New Year’s Eve Party Following on from the success of last year’s party where 90 revellers saw in the New Year together, we expect that even more will join in this time round. Disco with light buffet. 2006 Diary Early March tba Cleaning and Repairs to Courts 2,3,4 and 9 Contractors will be on site for a few days to prepare the courts for repainting later in the months. Some of the hard courts will be out of use at this time. Date tba Club Tidy, Paint and Odd job Day – volunteers wanted to help do the odd bit of wall painting, skipping of rubbish, cleaning, etc with the promise of a free pint when we stop at midday. March 18th (Saturday) Junior Blitz Fun Day part I pupils from local primary schools get to try the club and engage in fun activities led by James Tuckett. March 25th (Saturday) Junior Blitz Fun Day part II March 29th – April 12th Courts 2,3,4 and 9 repainting. Depending on weather, we expect the hard courts to be out of action for 2 weeks. Some coaching during this period will transfer to King Alfred’s School April 9th (Sunday) 11am-2pm Social Mixed Doubles Fun Tournament Monthly fun tournament with prizes open to all members that have reached social club play standard. We mix you up with different partners for each game. Normally held on second Sunday of the month. Adults £2, juniors £1. May 14th (Sunday) 11am-2pm Ron Hines Trophy (Social Mixed Doubles Fun Tournament) Ffun tournament with prizes open to all members that have reached social club play standard. We mix you up with different partners for each game. Adults £2, juniors £1. No need to book, just turn up at 11 am prompt - finishes around 2pm. June 4th (Sunday) 11 am Annual General Meeting All members welcome to come along and hear the review of the previous financial year and information about the future. June 11th (Sunday) 11am-2pm Social Mixed Doubles Fun Tournament June 26th – July 9th Wimbledon Championships This year, the final is on the same day as the World Cup final so expect a good day for Roger Federer and England (you heard it here first). August 13th (Sunday) Andrewartha Mixed Doubles Tournament Our annual tournament in memory of the late John Andrewartha, a former Club Captain at The Avenue August 14th – 19th Burnham Open Junior Tournament The Open is one week later this year due to the Wimbledon Championships being one week later (as this affects the dates of many other grass roots tournaments). August 23rd – 27th Burnham Open Senior Tournament Like the Junior event, the Senior Open is also one week later this year. This event has been running for nearly 90 years and Andrew Castle and Jo Durie have previously taken part among many other rising stars. September 2nd (Saturday) Blanchworth Charity Tournament, near Dursley, Gloucestershire For the last 2 years, around 8 Avenue members have taken part in this charity mixed doubles event.
