How to stay motivated in the winter

Shorter and colder days make it challenging for even the most dedicated people to stay motivated on their fitness goals. Here PT Lisa’s tips on staying on top of your goals this winter:

  1. Set yourself a goal.

Having a goal to work towards makes staying motivated easier, especially if you book yourself into a competition or a race. Something to work towards!

If you don’t want to book yourself into anything and are unsure of where to start with goal setting, set yourself a SMART goal.

S – Specific – Make sure you have a clear goal in mind

M – Measurable – Make sure you can measure your success (ie lifting heavier, running faster, weight loss etc)

A – Achievable – Make sure your goal is realistic! Even if you set yourself small goals to star with and then slowly build on them.

R – Relevant – is the goal relevant to the bigger picture of what you are trying to achieve?

T – time bound – set yourself a deadline. Or break your goal down into achievable pieces. For example, if your goal is to lose weight first start by getting yourself into a fitness routine for the first 3 weeks, then set yourself a diet plan on top of your fitness routine and build it up slowly. Otherwise, it can be overwhelming not knowing where to start.

  1. Have a plan in mind.

If you are someone who goes to the gym and just wings their session with no plan, you are more likely to lose interest and motivation. Having a structured workout plan makes coming to the so much easier, and you are more likely to see results. 1. Book a class.

Booking an exercise class is a fantastic way to keep your workout routine fun and interesting. Not only will you get a great workout done, you will also meet new like-minded people. Here at Avenue Tennis we have a wide range of classes, everything from weight focused classes, to cardio focused, to slower paced stretch and yoga classes – something for everyone!

  1. Have a training buddy.

Having someone to go to the gym with gives your more incentive to get out the door and do something active. If you are a nervous gym goer, having a friend with you can boost your confidence. Also, if you are a competitive person having a training partner can help you to push more to beat your buddy
